Download and Update the Firmware

1. Download the LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.exe file to begin the Firmware Updater.
3. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
4. Verify that the remove hardware icon is displayed in the task tray at the lower right-hand corner of the computer screen.
5. At the «Firmware Updater» window, click «Next».WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
6. When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the following screen is displayed, and the camera screen displays the message, «Follow computer instructions.»
7. At the «Firmware Updater» window, click «Next».
8. When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left. If the current version is «Ver.1», click «Next».Note: If the current version is «Ver.2», your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection, click «Finish», then remove the battery or disconnect the AC adaptor briefly, and then power on the camera again.
9. When the following screen is displayed, click the remove hardware icon in the task tray to stop the USB connection.Note: Do not disconnect the USB cable from the camera or the computer.
10. Press the center button of the Control Wheel to reset the camera.
11. At the «Firmware Updater» window, click «Next».
12. When the following screen is displayed, click «Run».WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
13. When the following screen is displayed, click «Finish».
14. The update process starts and the progress bar is displayed on the camera screen.
15. The update process is finished when the «Lens update complete.» message is displayed on the camera screen.
16. Click the remove hardware icon in the task tray to stop the USB connection, and then disconnect the USB cable.
17. Power off the camera, then remove the battery pack or AC adapter.
18. Reconnect the battery pack or AC adapter and power on the camera.

Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)

1. Power on the camera.
2. Press the Menu button.
3. At the «Menu» screen, use the Control Dial to select «Setup», and then press the Control Dial.
4. At the «Setup» screen, use the Control Dial to scroll to «Version», and then press the Control Dial.
5. The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen.If the Lens/Mount Adaper firmware version is 02 the firmware update was successful.
6. Press the Control Dial to close the version number display.

Details

IMPORTANT:

• When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or NP-FV100(sold separately) or AC adaptor AC-PW10AM.
• Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.

Firmware Upgrade Instructions

1. Double-click LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.exe to start up Firmware Updater. 
2. Attach the mount adaptor and the A-mount lens to the camera, then turn on the camera.
3. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
4. Confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
5. After confirming the above, click Next on Firmware Updater.Figure 1 appears on Firmware Updater and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.Figure 1: Firmware UpdaterFigure 2: Camera’s LCD screenNote: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
6. After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.Figure 3: Upgrade is requiredIf «Current version: Ver.2» appears on the screen(Figure 4), the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.Figure 4: Upgrade is not required
7. Clickon the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.
8. Press the center of the control wheel to reset the camera.Figure 5: Camera’s LCD screenFigure 6: Camera control wheelNote: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
9. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 7 appears.Figure 7
10. Click Run to transfer the firmware upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 10 seconds).Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
11. When the transfer is completed, the screen on Figure 8 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.Figure 8
12. The updating procedure will start, and Figure 9 will be displayed. The progress bar appears while upgrading.Figure 9: Updating the mount adaptor
13. When the upgrade is completed, the screen on Figure 10 appears.Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.Figure 10: Complete the upgrade of the mount adaptor

Check the firmware version

1. Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
2. The firmware version is displayed. The firmware upgrade was completed successfully if Ver.02 is displayed.
